About

DevEvening is run by Alex Mackey and Chris Melinn.

DevEvening was originally set up in the UK by Alex Mackey and Simon Pease in the UK with Matt Lacey taking over from Simon the latter part of 2008.

Alex and Simon enjoyed learning and discussing technology and techniques and thought it would be useful to have an informal forum where information could be shared amongst developers. Additionally other user groups that ran a lecture format could sometimes be a bit dry.

All we needed was a venue, a deal was then made with a local hotel to hire a room at no cost on the condition that the group would purchase food and drink. This also provided a second part of the evening for socialising and networking.

Our original venue changed managment and were no longer able to provide this deal so we moved to the Bird in hand pub at the end of 2008.

In Sep 2009 Alex moved to Australia and in January set up Devevening Melbourne with the assistance of David Millington. DevEvening continue to run in the UK coordinated by Matt Lacey and Craig Hogan. Take a look at Devevening.co.uk for more details.
